AKCS Robert “Bob” Spahn, USN (Retired), 76, passed away on October 1, 2012 after a brief battle with cancer and pneumonia with his loving wife Barbara by his side. Bob retired in 1984, after 27 years of service to our country. Upon his retirement, Bob started his own business, “Rooms with a View”, where he met many friends while doing what he enjoyed most - creating structures where families could enjoy each other’s company. Early in life, Bob was an avid gymnast and fitness buff and he was named Mr. Northern Arizona in 1955. God blessed Bob with a beautiful voice, singing in the Navy Choir, several Broadway productions and as the lead vocalist for the two groups he formed, “Group Therapy” and “Mixed Emotions”. Bob decided to close his business in 2006 to pursue his goal of building a “haven” for himself and his wife to live out their years together. Many days were spent in his workshop “putzing” and building, creating rock gardens and landscapes. Bob and Barb enjoyed sitting on the porch together and watching the families of deer graze and play which was a true source of enjoyment for them both. They enjoyed traveling to St. Louis to visit family, and their trips to Maggie Valley and New England with Barbara’s sister Betsy and brother-in-law Dennis were some of the happiest moments in their lives. Visits from his children and grandchildren were also a special source of joy. His family and friends will greatly miss his generosity, sweet spirit, loving smile and his special sense of humor. Bob is survived by his wife Barbara of 28 years, his sister Erna (Fred) Schroeder, his daughters Janie Annette (Frank) Plunk and Angela Shaver, their mother, Shirley Spahn, as well as his step-children, Rob (Dein) Hug, Lisa (Scott) Lance, David (Rene) Hug, Robert (Theresa) Hug. Bob was blessed with 10 grandchildren, 3 great and 2 great-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his stepson Bubba White and sister Louise Collins. Services will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church at 210 Washington Ave. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. with services at 2 p.m. and a reception following at 3 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Bob was devoted to Trinity Lutheran Church and its’ supportive and loving members. He was involved in and dedicated to their current renovation project.
