

Roland Eugene Klundt, Age 95, of Cordova, Tennessee, passed from this life on February 14, 2014. He was born in Krem, North Dakota, August 7th, 1918, the son of German immigrants Emma and Henry Klundt. Roland met Joan Maxene Hicks in Austin, TX on Friday the 13th in February, 1959 and married her that year in May. Roland taught in a one room schoolhouse in North Dakota before being inducted into the Army in World War II where he served in the infantry, as well as the Korean and Vietnam Wars. His decorations included the Legion of Merit, a prestigious award for service. He was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma, the Army's Command and General Staff College, and the NATO Defense College in Rome, Italy. His last overseas assignment included assisting in the cold war plans for defense of NATO's central region. During his military career, he served in the United States, Asia and Europe, with his last post being Professor of Military Science at North Dakota State University. Ending 32 years of military service with a rank of Colonel, he became Human Resources Director of Continental Telephone Company covering 5 states. Roland was an active member of the Cordova Church of Christ, and his passions included gardening and fishing. His wonderful qualities included his trust in people and a positive outlook on life. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joan, two children, Leigh Warnock of Austin, TX and Lana Chu of Memphis, TN, and preceded in death by his son, Nathan. He is survived by 7 granddaughters, 4 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to your charity of choice . A memorial service will be held at Cordova Church of Christ on Monday, February 17th, at 2 p.m. Burial Services will be held at a family cemetery in Texas.
