Rev. Teddy R. Steele

Reverend Teddy R. Steele went home to be with his Lord and Savior on the afternoon of Monday, 4 April 2011. Bro Teddy leaves his wife of 53 years, Margaret Arata Steele. He also leaves his son Jon (Debbie) and grandsons Preston, Austin, Peyton and brother Victor (Hettie Jean). Bro Steele was predeceased by his parents, T.V. and Doris Steele. Bro Teddy was raised in Memphis and graduated from Treadwell High School in 1956 where he excelled in sports. In his senior year he was selected to All Memphis in baseball, basketball and honorable mention in football. In 2002 he was inducted into the Memphis Amateur Hall of Fame in baseball. His greatest honor tho, came in 1958, when at the age of 19 He received Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior and shortly after was called to the Ministry. He attended Memphis State University, Tennessee Temple University and Memphis Baptist College. He pastored in Georgia, Indiana and in 1972, was called as founding pastor of East Side Baptist Church where he pastored for 39 years. Bro Steele was Chairman of the Board of Fundamental Baptist Worldwide Missions who supports over 40 missionaries and their families. Bro Teddy was much loved and will be remembered by many as an outstanding baseball player, but will be remembered by many more as a true and faithful servant to our Lord, Jesus Christ. His Lord said unto him, well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things: enter you into the joy of your Lord. Matthew 25:23. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 6, at Eastside Baptist Church from 5-8 and again on Thursday, April 7 from 9:30 am until service at 11 am. Burial will follow in Memphis Memory Gardens at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in memory of Bro Teddy to East Side Baptist Church. (The debt retirement fund.)
