Violet Calhoun completed her earthly journey at the age of 98 on November 1, 2022. She has now been reunited with her husband Milton and their 2 children Loretta and Michael. She leaves behind her daughter in law Nancy Calhoun, her grandchildren Tim (Elizabeth) Smith, Charlie (Melissa) Smith, Cheri (Eddie) Howard, Amy (Jeff) Rodgers, and Melanie (Kevin) Rehg. Violet had 11 great grandchildren and 15 great great grandchildren as well as so many nieces, nephews cousins and friends that meant the world to her. In addition she leaves behind Allison Riles who had become her adopted family and caregiver in recent years. Granny Violet, as she was called by some of her grandchildren, loved sending cards and letters and sharing her vast collection of photographs that she had taken over the years. She never went anywhere without a camera. If the Cardinals were playing a televised baseball game, you could be sure that she was watching. She still worked on her crochet every day and would gift her creations to those around her. You would often find her still doing her nails as she always did. She never missed an opportunity to go fishing with her nephew Kenny and his wife Terri Faye. She was a lifelong member of New Life Baptist church until moving away in 2002 after the passing of her husband of 60 years to live with her daughter Loretta and her husband Charles. While living in Somerville she had made Feathers Chapel Baptist her church home. Violet was a proud homemaker and even fostered several children earlier in her life. She loved the Lord and her family more than anything in this world. She has given most of us a lifetime of memories that we will cherish until we meet her again.
A visitation for Violet will be held Monday, November 7, 2022 from 1:00 PM until service time at 2:00 PM at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38133. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens in Bartlett, Tennessee.
