He was born to the late Ray and Elsie Simpson on February 20th, 1935 in Ellard, Mississippi. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Jean McKelroy; and 2 brother in laws, Pete McKelroy and Bill Snellings. He retired after 38 years from Sears and Enterprise after 16 years. He was a truck driver and a member of Ellendale Baptist Church where he served in the pre-school Sunday School for many years. Wally’s greatest joy was being GeDa to all of his grandchildren.
Wally is survived by his wife of 65 years, Iris McPhail Simpson; sons, Donald Wayne (Wallis), Steven Lee and daughter, Paula Jean Lipford (Steve); grandchildren, Stephanie Bullock (Aaron), Holly Stewart (Chad), Jesse Simpson, and Andrew Simpson; great-grandchildren, Chloe, Cage, Cara Bullock, Sadie, Nolen, Hadley, Liana, and Bella Stewart; and one sister, Mattie Ann Snellings.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Ellendale Baptist Church or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Family will receive friends from 1:00pm to 2:00pm on Friday, March 4th at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd, Bartlett, TN. Services will follow at 2:00pm.
