Eugene was a faithful husband, loving father, and cherished grandfather and great-grandfather. Eugene dedicated his life to his family. He and Charlene built a life together centered on love, faith, and family, creating a legacy that will live on through his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a lifelong member of Raleigh Assembly of God where he served as an usher. He shared his love for the outdoors with the young men there as a leader of the Royal Rangers Outpost #21 known by everyone as “Commander Pawpaw”. This included his many camping trips with these young men in which he did most of the cooking over a campfire that always included biscuits and chocolate gravy while they earned their merits. More recently he was a member of First Assembly Memphis where he enjoyed attending weekly worship services. He always had dirt under his finger nails. He grew up in the cotton fields in Paragould picking ~300 lbs of cotton a day (so the story’s told), played in his grandfather’s tobacco fields, worked at Chelsea Green House for 21 years where he loved attending to mums and poinsettias for the Christmas season. He always had a garden and loved helping others with any bug or blight problems. Later years he made the bold step to change professions to become a diesel mechanic for Caterpillar at Taylor Machinery in Memphis servicing Coca-Cola trucks. Eugene’s warmth, kindness and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A visitation will be held at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, located at 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38133, on December 15, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm with a graveside service taking place at 2pm.
