

WILLIAM “Bill” EUGENE HURLEY, 85, died August 9, 2014 after a long illness of complications caused by MS. He was at home and being cared for by his wife, Reva Mayfield Hurley, with the assistance of Amedisys Home Health Care for the past 10 plus years. he was a communicant of St. Michael Catholic Church. He was a graduate of Catholic High School and attended Memphis State University (now University of Memphis). He worked for GMAC until he was drafted into the Army in 1950 during the Korean War. He served his country two plus years. He was self-employed in the Insurance Adjusting business until the early 1980’s at which time he started working for Walgreens at their warehouse in “Loss Prevention”. He retired from Walgreens in 1992 and went to work for Dixon Art Gallery on Park Avenue until he was forced to completely retire in 1996 due to health complications caused by MS. He is survived by his wife, Reva Mayfield Hurley; one daughter, Lynn (Bill) Hurley Simmons; three sons, Sam (Susie) Hurley, Hensley (Selina) Hurley and David Hurley; one sister, Marie Hurley Thayer; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward M. Hurley, Sr., and Marie Steele Hurley; his brothers, Edward M. Hurley, Jr., and Thomas Gilliam Hurley. Memphis Funeral Home on Germantown Parkway has charge. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. on Monday, August 11 at Memphis Funeral Home, Germantown Pkwy. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 12 at St. Michael Catholic Church, 3863 Summer Avenue, Memphis, TN. The family requests that memorials be sent to MS Society or the donor of your choice.
