William A. Carraway, Jr.

William Alonzo “Buddy/Lil’Bud” Carraway, Jr. was born August 8, 1947 in Memphis, Tennessee to William Alonzo “Big Buddy” Carraway, Sr. and Inez Davis Carraway. He passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus at his home, Saturday, March 25, 2017. Mr. Carraway lived his entire life in the Brunswick community. He graduated from Bolton High School in 1965, and he worked for the Shelby County Penal Farm for several years before he joined his father’s family-owned business, Carraway Roofing, where he remained until his father’s passing in 1994. In that same year, Buddy and his son, Heath Carraway, started their family-owned Roofing and Woodworking Company, B and H Woodworking. Mr. Carraway was a life-long member of Brunswick Baptist Church, and he worked tirelessly for over 25 years as a Praise and Worship Leader at the Arlington Developmental Center, as part of a mission outreach program from Brunswick Baptist. Mr. Carraway served on the Pleasant Hill Cemetery Committee since 1997, and he was a friend to anyone who needed him. Lil’Bud truly had a servant’s heart, and there was no task too small or large that he would not take on to help his family, neighbors, or friends. His parents, William Alonzo Carraway, Sr. and Inez Davis Carraway, predeceased Lil’Bud. Bud leaves his wife of 46 years, Wesley Ann Hobgood Carraway, of Brunswick; one daughter, Heather (Jason) Carraway Hill of Bartlett, Tennessee, one son, Wesley Heath Carraway, of Brunswick, Tennessee, and five grandchildren: Taylor, Loren, Michael, and Abby Hill of Bartlett, and Alyssa Nichole Carraway of Covington, Tennessee. Mr. Carraway also leaves three sisters: Angeline (Don) Carraway Seward of Collierville, Tennessee, Melody (Don) Carraway Warren of Brunswick, Tennessee and Deborah Ann Carraway of Brunswick, Tennessee. He also leaves two nephews and a niece, as well as a host of cousins and life long friends. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at the Memphis Funeral Home Germantown Road Chapel, 3700 N. Germantown Rd, Bartlett, TN, from 5-8 p.m. and the funeral and burial will be Wednesday, March 29, 2017 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Cemetery 4761 Brunswick Road, Arlington, Tennessee 38002. Any memorials in Mr. Carraway’s honor can be sent to the Pleasant Hill Cemetery Association or Brunswick Baptist Church.
