Born on April 2, 1962, in Savannah, Tennessee, Edward grew up in Morris Chapel, where his love of music began early. A self-taught pianist, he was playing in his father’s church by the age of eleven — the beginning of a lifelong devotion to music and ministry. Throughout his life, he served as music director at several churches, including Christian Life Tabernacle, Kinder United Pentecostal Church, Rosemark Pentecostal Church, and Fountain of Truth. His calling was to touch hearts through music — writing songs, leading choirs, and guiding congregations in worship with both excellence and deep sincerity.
Edward also worked as a machinist and manufacturing engineer, known for his precision, strong work ethic, and problem-solving skills. Whether on the shop floor or behind a piano, he brought a commitment to doing things right — with care, with heart, and with purpose.
He was married for 42 years to his beloved wife, Rita Duke. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, music, family, and bickering. He was a devoted father to daughters Harmony Duke and Melody Roberson, and a proud father-in-law to Cameron Roberson. He especially delighted in his role as "Pop" to grandchildren Reya and Grey, with whom he shared songs and games of tic-tac-toe and tag.
Edward is survived by his wife Rita, daughters Harmony and Melody, son-in-law Cameron, grandchildren Reya and Grey, his parents William and Mary Duke, and his brothers Danny and Nathan Duke.
He will be remembered for his unwavering integrity, deep faith, and the way he gave his best in all things — whether it was leading worship, raising a family, or fixing what was broken. He believed in excellence not for applause, but as an offering to God.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 25, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Christian Life Church, 9375 Davies Plantation Road, Bartlett, TN 38133. A celebration of life service will follow on Saturday, April 26, at 10:00 AM.
Edward leaves behind a legacy of faith, music, and love — a life well-lived, and a man well-loved.
