WILLIAM THOMAS “Bill” JOWERS “Sonny”, born in Slayden, MS on February 24, 1921 to Lillian Beatrice Hurdle Jowers and Dempsey Thomas Jowers. He passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2014. Most of his his family called him Sonny. He lived for about 40 years in Whitehaven and was a faithful member of Whitehaven Baptist Church. Bill worked in farm equipment sales for just about all of his life. In 1948, he married the love of his life, Edna Earle Gurley and they were happily married for 64 years until she passed away in 2012. He is survived by his three sons, Charles Randall Jowers (Robin), Mark Layne Jowers (Carol), and Thomas Wayne Jowers; two grandchildren, William Langdon Jowers and Caroline Jowers Pattat (Tyler) and one great-grandchild, Ellie McKinney Pattat. Sonny was preceded in death by his four sisters, Lois Hurdle, Ruth Hurdle Tingle, Grace Hurdle Hale and Juanita Jowers Allen. He served our country in the Navy for five years during WWII. Bill dearly loved the Lord. This was ever evident during his last days as he murmured “Praise the Lord”. He also murmured “Payday Payday” which was no doubt referring to the old sermon, “Payday, Someday” by Dr. R. G. Lee, who baptized him when he was a boy. Thank you Lord for sharing this prayer warrior with us. He’s yours now. Instead of flowers, please make a donation to the Gideon’s in his name to make the Word available to others. There will be a brief visitation at Memphis Funeral Home, Germantown Road on Friday morning, August 8 from 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. with a Graveside service immediately following at 12 Noon at Memphis Memory Gardens Cemetery, 6444 Raleigh LaGrange.
