Alma Marie Downing

She was born Feb. 8, 1930 in Quincy, IL to Elmer and Mary Lou (Embree) Johnson. She married Vernon Downing in Peoria in 1951. He passed away Sep. 17, 2009 in Peoria. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Richard V. Downing, one daughter, Marsha Miller, and two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include one son, Michael Downing of Peoria, one sister, Agnes (Ernie) Trent of East Peoria, two grandchildren: Wendy (Matt) Avery of Peoria, April Downing of Peoria, AZ, and seven great-grandchildren.

Marie held several jobs when she was younger including housekeeping at Methodist Hospital and the old Lehman Building in Peoria, performed home healthcare, and was a babysitter for numerous family and friends.

She was a member of the Laundry Union in the 1950’s and was a certified caregiver. Marie enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and sewing. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services will be Friday, Feb. 4, 2022 at 11 a.m. at the Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services.

Burial will be in Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
