Chuck married the love of his life, Carol Lund, on March 25, 1978. She survives. Also surviving are his children, Michael (Kim) of Denver, Steven (Cynthia) of Katy, Texas, Jackie Spivey of Rice Lake, Wisconsin, Scott (Gretchen) of Morton. He is also survived by a grandson, Garrick (Makayla) Predmore of Denver; granddaughters, Gillian (Brian) Bass of Cypress, Texas and Olivia Predmore of Katy, Texas; 2 great-grandchildren, and his dear friends, Christine and Doug, along with their dogs Ivy and Addison. He was preceded in death by his brother Harold, one daughter, Jennifer and a grandson, Christopher.
He graduated from Chillicothe High school in 1952, where he was a 4-sport athlete, later being inducted into the Illinois Valley Central High School Athletic Hall of Fame. After serving in the US Army, he attended Eureka College where he was a 3-year starter on the football team. After graduating from college, he spent over 4 decades teaching and coaching, finishing his career teaching middle school social studies and science at Deer Creek-Mackinaw.
In addition to his teaching and coaching he officiated basketball and football for over 3 decades. During his time as a basketball referee, he had the pleasure of calling technical fouls on some of the most renowned basketball coaches in the area.
Being a teacher meant that he had to find something to do during the summers. That something led to the establishment of Chuck’s Painting. It was a business he maintained for many years after he retired from teaching. It also provided his sons with jobs, where they learned skills that have served them well throughout their lives.
The job he enjoyed most was that of Dad, and later Grandpa. Out of the great love he had for his children he held them to high standards. He modeled and instilled in his children the values of hard work, persistence, and respect for others. He had a great love for dogs, and he was never happier than when surrounded by his family and a dog or two.
Chuck was an avid Cubs fan throughout his life…during the good and lean years.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel, 1203 W Garfield Ave.
The family would like to thank the staff of Pekin Liberty Village for the excellent care provided to Chuck during his time there. They are especially grateful to Nurse Laura from Carle Hospice for her kind and compassionate care.
