He was born Jan. 10, 1945 in Peoria to Henry and Marjorie (Marcussen) Schuster. He married Betty Smith on May 27, 1967 in Peoria. She survives along with two sons: John (Janet) Schuster of Washington, Scott (Stephanie) Schuster of Germantown Hills, six grandchildren: Brooke (Matt) Batton, Brendan Schuster, Jake Schuster, Zack Martin, Madison Martin, Natalie Schuster, two great-grandchildren: Kinsley, Lillie Batton, and two brothers: Don (Carol) Schuster of Michigan, and Tom (Heather) Schuster of Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Gary was an Industrial Arts School teacher for Woodruff High School then Manual High School retiring in 1995. He then worked for Parker-Hannifin Corp. in Morton.
He was a member of St John Lutheran Church in Bartonville.
Visitation will be Friday, July 28, 2023 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 29, 2023 at 11 a.m. at St John Lutheran Church in Bartonville. Pastor Michael Jones will officiate. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.
Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St John Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer’s Association Peoria Chapter.
