

Howard Peter “Pete” Mahrt, Jr., 85, of Bartonville, passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at Amy’s Country Manor in Pekin. He was born on January 21, 1937 in Peoria, a son of Howard P. Mahrt, Sr. and Elsie S. (Samchuck) Mahrt. Pete married Sandra Kay Kuhel on September 22, 1956 in Fort Campbell, KY. She preceded him in death on October 16, 2014 in Bartonville.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; sister, Norma Valencia; and granddaughter, Michelle Mahrt.
Pete is survived by his three children, Rick Mahrt of Bartonville, Bryon (Cathy) Mahrt of West Peoria, and Kathy (Alan) Hankins of Pekin; five grandchildren, Abigail (Justin) McKinley, Stephanie Mahrt, Marcia (Vince) Patlan, Jason (Stephanie) Hankins, and Melonie (Jerome) Young; and seven great-grandchildren, Andrew, Skylar, Taylor, Ashton, Brendan, Elijah, and Ella; he also leaves behind his beloved dog, Bootsy.
He served his country in the United States Army with the 101st Airborne Division.
Pete last worked as a bus driver for Peoria Charter Coach. He worked as a laborer for Keystone Steel & Wire in Bartonville for 32 years before retiring.
He was a member of the Pekin R/C Club. Pete enjoyed fishing, traveling and spending time with his family.
There will be a private inurnment in Parkview Cemetery in Peoria. There will be no visitation. Cremation and service has been entrusted to the Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel.
