Jeanette Grace Behrends

Jeanette was born in Peoria to Edward John and Margaret (Riekena) Behrends, along with her twin sister, Janice, on November 20, 1937. Janice preceded her in death on August 7, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Jeanette is survived by her brother, Martin (Norma) Behrends, one niece, Sheri Behrends McMurray of Peoria, two nephews, Chris (Ellen) Behrends of Chattanooga, TN and Scott (Karen) Behrends of Littleton, CO and five great nieces and nephews, Anna, Bradley, John, Holly, and Jeffrey.

Graduating from Bradley University with a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree, Jeanette was a teacher at Illini Bluffs in Glasford for 42 years. Known as “Miss B” by her students, she taught English, Language Arts, and Physical Education. She loved her students and saved every school picture and every personal card given to her over the years. She was a track coach for many years. Devoted to education, she was a member of Bradley University/Heart of IL chapter of Phi Delta Kappa.

She was a lifelong member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, and loved singing in the church choir. She was also a member of the Red Hats, and a strong supporter of both the Susan G. Komen Foundation and the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.

Jeanette loved the Chicago Cubs, Bradley Braves, Ford Thunderbirds, and Sky Harbor Steakhouse. She enjoyed playing tennis, and bowled in several leagues in the Peoria area. She was a member of the 600 club.

Jeanette’s funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Glasford, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Mark Schoenhals will officiate. Burial will be in St. Peter Lutheran Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to her church.
