

He was born Nov. 20, 1915 in Liberty, NC to William and Swanna (Humble) Smith. He married Bonnie Staley April 24, 1937 in Reidsville, NC. She survives along with two sons: George (Senna) Smith of Hanna City, Lyle (Dodie) Smith of Pekin, two daughters-in-law: Barbara Smith of Tampa, FL, Paula Smith of Glasford, eleven grandchildren, nineteen Great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and two sisters: Lola Gregson of Wilmington, NC, Mammie Teague of Greensboro, NC.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons: Jiles, Jr, and Thomas, one brother, and four sisters.
Jiles first worked in the Textile Mills in North Caroline, then during WWII worked in the Shipyards in Baltimore, MD. Following that the was a Punch Press Operator at Martin Aircraft in Baltimore, and then was a fork Lift Operator at Caterpillar, Inc. for 29 years retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Local UAW 974, and Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Bartonville.
Funeral services will be Tuesday April 12, 2011 at 12:30 p.m. at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Smithville Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to American Heart Association or the American Kidney Foundation.
