C. Ervin Cox

“We are grateful we have loved him and heartbroken to have lost him.” C. Ervin Cox, 83, returned to his heavenly home on Thursday, May 20, 2021. He was born in Henry County on November 24, 1937 to the late Jesse James Cox Sr. and Mary Alice Wright Cox. In addition to his parents, Ervin was preceded in death by four sisters, Lois Cox, Minnie Edmonds, Lucy Hopkins, and Vera Rogers; three brothers, Robert, George and Jesse Cox Jr. Ervin is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Freda Byrd Cox; daughters, Sheila Hubbard (William), Anne Cox Moore and Renee Cowher (Tim); grandchildren, Jodi Light (Brandon), Tink Cooper (Chase), Haley Moore, Cameron Haynes, Kaylan Cowher, Haley Hubbard; great grandchildren, BellaGrace Light, Brenna Light, Brodi Light, Kennedy Moore, Raelyn Cooper; sister Hazel Norman; sister-in-law Myrtle Cox; numerous nieces and nephews. Ervin retired from being the owner and operator of the Village Market in Bassett where he made many great friends that became like family. He was very good hearted with a mischievous nature. He really enjoyed gardening, fishing, porch sitting, watching his birds, being around people and making them laugh. His friendliness and kindness to all people, and his devotion and love for his family is a tribute to the beauty of his heart and soul. A floating visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Monday, May 24, 2021 at Collins Funeral Home. Friends and family may sign the guestbook. Due to COVID 19 concerns, a private graveside service will held at a later time.
