
Douglas is survived by his loving wife, Betty Faye Martin and half-brother Harold E. Martin.
He graduated third in his class of 1950 at Bassett High School, also graduated from Perry Business College in 1951. He retired from American Electric Power Company with 42 years of service as a clerical supervisor in the Records Section.
Douglas was in the Army Signal Corps at Ft. Gordon, GA from 1953 to 1955. He was at Ft. Gordon for the entire 2 years and was assigned to headquarters personnel to maintain service records for trainees.
He enjoyed bowling on a team and won trophies. He also enjoyed Nascar Racing, Ballroom Dancing and was a charter member of the Fairystone Squares. He kept aware of stocks he had purchased on the New York Stock Exchange (daily).
He was a member of Blackberry Baptist Church but attended Ft. Trial Christian Church.
An open visitation will be held Thursday, March 10, 2022 at Collins Funeral Home, 30 Riverside Drive, Bassett, VA 24055, from 12:00 PM until 4:00 PM. The family will not be in attendance. A private graveside service for the family will be held at Roselawn Cemetery on Friday, March 11, 2022. Donations may be made to Ft. Trial Christian Church or Blackberry Baptist Church. The family requests no food or flowers.
