

Edward Davis Ramsey, Sr., 92, of Martinsville, formerly of the Oak Level Community, died Friday, January 18, 2013 at Blue Ridge Manor of Martinsville. He was born in Henry County on February 12, 1920 to the late James Henry Ramsey and Mary Davis Ramsey. He served in the United States Army during World War II as a Staff Sergeant. He was retired after twenty-nine years with DuPont and then became self-employed as a painter. He was a lifelong member of Fort Trial Baptist Church; a member of the church Senior Adults Group, Senior Adults Sunday School Class, and Baptist Men. He was also a member of the Oak Level Ruritan Club.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sons, Edward Davis Ramsey, Jr., and Lynwood Carroll Ramsey, seven brothers, James, Pete, Glen, Lewis, Harold, Sterling and Charlie Ramsey.
Surviving are his wife of seventy two years, Ruby Spencer Ramsey of Martinsville, one daughter and son-in-law, Judith Ramsey and Sidney “Sid” Hagans of Hickory, NC, a special daughter-in-law, Sandra Ramsey Stegall and husband Benny of Bassett, three sisters, Ethel R. Hodges of Martinsville, Mary R. Davis of Collinsville and Josephine R. Horsley of Bassett, three grandchildren, Melissa R. Breaux and husband Todd, Spencer Davis Ramsey and wife Jane, and Thomas J. Carter, two great grandchildren, Mason Davis Ramsey and Jaden Thomas Carter, special niece and nephew, Norvelline and Jerry Atkins.
Funeral services will be held 11a.m. Monday January 21, 2013 at Fort Trial Baptist Church with Dr. Joey McNeill and Rev. Tony Beach officiating, interment will be in Henry Memorial Park with flag presentation by the Martinsville-Henry County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends 6-8 P.M. Sunday January 20, 2013 at Fort Trial Baptist Church.
