Elma Purdy Hayes

Lucy Elma Purdy Hayes, 94, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away on December 19, 2015 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born December 8, 1921 in Henry County, Virginia to Lelia Ann Arnold Purdy and Henry Lee Purdy.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Raymond Hayes, brothers, John A. Purdy and C. Russell Purdy, sister, Gertrude Spencer, and great-nephew, Andrew Wayne Haley.

She is survived by her sister, Mae Thompson of Portsmouth, VA, nieces, Mona Haley of Huddleston, VA, Donna Carter of Sunset Beach, NC, Sandra Gilhuly of Roanoke, VA, and Jan Richards of Chesapeake, VA, nephews, David Spencer of Spring, TX, and Phillip Thompson of St. Petersburg, FL., several great-nieces and great-nephews, including Greg Haley of Huddleston, VA.

The funeral service will be at 11 AM on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. James Hewitt officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Roselawn Burial Park.
