

Gloria Shively Compton, 72, of Franklin Health Care Center in Rocky Mount, died Saturday, December 17, 2011 at the Health Care Facility. She was born in Franklin Co., on August 7, 1939 to the late George C. Shively and Donnie Bowling Shively. She had worked for Globman’s Department Store until they closed and later retired after fifteen years with Food Lion as a Scan Analyst, she was a member of Smith Memorial United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert B. Compton, Sr., and one brother, Rodney Shively.
Surviving are two daughters, Sonya Compton and Gwyn Billings both of Collinsville, one son, Herbert Compton, Jr., of Collinsville, two brothers, Denver and Donald Shively both of Bassett, one granddaughter, Sallie Oldham of Pelham, NC, two great grandsons, Briggs and Will Oldham both of Pelham, NC and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2011 in the chapel of Collins Funeral Home of Bassett with Rev. Dr. Joey McNeill officiating, interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends 6-8p.m. Monday, December 19, 2011 in the chapel of Collins Funeral Home of Bassett.
