Harold Edwin Evans

Harold Edwin “Hal” Evans, 82, passed peacefully into eternal rest on December 28, 2025, at Stanleytown Health & Rehab in Bassett, Virginia. Born on May 17, 1943, in Elkin, North Carolina, he was the son of Wesley and Rheumelle Evans.

Hal spent his childhood in Delray Beach, Florida, and graduated from Seacrest High School. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Florida in 1967 and was a proud member of the Alpha Kappa Psi fraternity.

His early professional years were rooted in merchandising and sales during his time in Jacksonville, Florida and Toccoa, Georgia. Hal later made his home in Sanford, North Carolina, where he built a long and varied career. He served as Vice President of Merchandising and Operations for W. Koury Co., owned and operated Southern Business Supply, spent more than a decade in wireless sales, and eventually transitioned into real estate. Deeply engaged in his community, Hal was an active member of the Jonesboro Rotary Club, where he served as president, and he participated in Relay for Life events, roles he held with great pride.

Following his retirement, Hal lived in Creedmoor, North Carolina, and most recently in Martinsville and Bassett, Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Andrew; and his sister, Carol.

Hal is survived by his son, John (Christy) Evans; his daughter, Sarah Evans; and his brothers, Clayton Evans, Wesley (Patricia) Evans, and Eric Evans. He will be remembered with love by extended family and friends whose lives were brightened by his presence.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Stanleytown Health & Rehab for their dedicated and compassionate care.

Inurnment will take place at Buffalo Jonesboro Cemetery in Sanford, North Carolina, at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Duke Dementia Family Support Program in Hal’s honor.
