Dear Jeanine, Chip, Emily, & Faith,
Greg & I, as well as my siblings, grieve with you in the loss of Pastor Lew. He will take his special place in Glory amongst the great Shepherds, and perhaps be welcomed by my mom Jean, and a loud shout from my brother Matt. Pastor Lew set the foundation for our lifetime of faithfulness to the Lord and church. Before he married us (8-17-1996), we had pre-marriage counseling using the book , "His Needs Her Needs" once a week. Since I was already a member along with my family, I already knew how special he was. Such a fine decent man. He was the most down to earth unpretentious preacher we have ever met, despite his impressive theological credentials. We found him to be utterly ethical and transparent in all he did, and my family still remembers his infectious laugh. Even though it has been years since we've been in touch, I want you to know that our family often spoke of you all fondly and what a great match we thought you and Lew made. We called you the "power couple". I always looked forward to his sermons because I liked his voice and he had such a great sense of humor sprinkling in his jokes! We will be lifting all your family up in prayer during the days and weeks ahead.

Dear Family,
I was so sorry to hear of the passing of my dear friend and fellow-pastor in the Lord, Dr. Lew Bennett III. I had some great conversations and companionship with Lew over the years and I very much appreciated his friendship and greatly respected his ministry at First Baptist Church, Bassett, Virginia and elsewhere. He will be missed. He is right now enjoying the fellowship of our Lord Jesus Christ in heaven with the heavenly family of God. He fought the good fight. He finished the race. Now there is laid for him a crown of glory. Lew was a faithful preacher of God's Word in season or out of season. I can only imagine the amount of heavenly fruit he bore on earth. Now we can look forward to seeing him again as we eventually make our way through that heavenly gate to focus our eyes on the greatest sight ever, the Living and Reigning Lord Jesus Christ. Good work, Lew! You let the Lord live His life and bless many people through you! God bless your eternal soul!
Your friend in Christ, Dr. Tom Cribb

Lew was a friend to me, and we talked several times about his ministry and other Christians we knew. I was told he moved to Alaska, and I never knew he was in Bassett until I learned at church that he was sick in Bassett,.
Now, with happy memories of Lew, I offer kind words to his wife and family, and will pray God will give them comfort,

I only knew Lew as an acquaintance as he was previously pastor at our church (He also performed our daughter's marriage), but I know his heart as a person and as a pastor through a sacrifice he made for a friend of mine that was also of some personal sacrifice to himself. It very much reflected the type of selfless man and pastor that he was in sacrificing for others at cost to himself. He will be greatly missed, and I feel loss for his church and especially for his family. However, I do rejoice in his new life with Jesus in Heaven! May God bless those who suffer in his loss.

Extending heartfelt love, prayers and sympathy to Pastor Lew's Family, his church family at First Baptist in Bassett and to the many, many lives he touched as a pastor and friend, He was always warm, kind, friendly and someone you could easily talk to about anything and took an interest in you whether you were one of his church members and/or family of one of his members and he definitely was a great pastor and will be missed by all that knew him.

Lew was a friend that I admired. The Holy Spirit showed in his life. He had the gift of developing friendships quickly. I was particularly impressed by his integrity. I was the executor for my Aunt Ella Turner's will, and she bequeathed her home to First Baptist Church of Bassett. In handling the estate, Lew honored her wishes, even if they may have differed from his personal desires.

It is my hope to see Lew again in heaven.
