Jack "J.D." Daniel Shelton

Jack Daniel “J.D.” Shelton, 93, of Bassett, passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. He was born in Blacksburg, Virginia on January 11, 1923 to Jerry M. Shelton and Ethel Cruise Shelton. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II and was retired from J. D. Bassett Furniture Industries.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Hamby Shelton on January 22, 2012, sister, Melvin Newman and brothers, Billy and Bobby Shelton.

Surviving are three daughters, Deborah Shelton Amos, Vivian Shelton and Susan Derreberry and husband, Darrell; one son, Gary Daniel Shelton and wife, Carol; one sister, Ruby Parcell; two brothers, Archie and Curtis Shelton; nine grandchildren, Melissa Red and husband, William, Brandon Amos, Tonya Allen and husband, Jamie, Jeff Shelton, Jennifer Derreberry, Ashley Trent and husband, Brian, Keith Clark, Jamie Lovins and Josh Lovins and ten great-grandchildren, Kolton Red, Olivia Allen, Tristan Shelton, Logan Allen, Mason Duncan, Christian Red, Nikkie Finney, Chase Trent, Chloe Trent and Avery Allen.

The family will receive friends Friday night, February 26, 2016, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Collins Funeral Home –Bassett, Virginia.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Collins Funeral Home with Pastor Don Reynolds and Pastor Bobby Rakes officiating. The Interment will follow at Shady Rest Cemetery with full Military Rites provided by the Veterans Honor Guard of Martinsville and Henry County.
