

James Earl Draper, Sr., 83, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at his home, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born in Henry County, Virginia on January 29, 1932 to Ernest and Mattie Draper. Earl was a graduate of Bassett High School and served in the United States Army. He retired from E. I. DuPont with 26 years of service. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Collinsville and an assistant leader with the Boy Scouts of America for 35 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Shorty and Christine Draper and brother, Dewey Draper.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Bridges Draper of the home, one daughter, Frances D. Stegall and husband, Jeff of Collinsville, two sons, James E. “Pete” Draper, Jr. and wife, Kathy of Collinsville and Brad Draper and partner, Mark Witt of Bassett, one grandson, Lucas W. Draper of Collinsville and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Friday, July 10, 2015 from 6:00 PM until 8:30 PM at First Baptist Church of Collinsville.
The Funeral Service will held Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Collinsville with Rev. Larry Cheek, Rev. Joey Lee and Dr. Mike Hatfield officiating. Interment will follow in Henry Memorial Park, Bassett, Virginia.
