Rev. James William Meredith Sr.

Born March 5, 1938, in Montgomery, WV, he was a son of the late John Quincy Meredith and Violet Haskins Meredith. Also preceding him in death was his sister, June Middleton and his brother, John Quincy Meredith Jr.

Jim received his Masters of Divinity from Temple University, and began his ministry serving Powellton and Deepwater United Methodist Churches in West Virginia from 1970-1973. He came to Bassett Memorial United Methodist Church in 1991 and retired in 2000. Jim was a past Mason and past president of the Kenbridge Ruritan Club in West Virginia. He was a member of Bassett Memorial United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife Connie Meredith of the home, his daughter, Deborah Meredith of Harrisonburg, two sons, James W. Meredith II of Richmond, and David Meredith of Bassett, and one granddaughter, Shannon Christina Meredith.

The funeral service will be at 11 A.M. Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at Collins Funeral Home in Bassett with the Rev. Ron Mateer officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Hermon Church of the Brethren Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 P.M. Monday at Collins Funeral Home, and at other times at the home.
