He was born to Saunders G. and Emma B. Morton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Wall Morton, and three sons, James W. Morton, Freddie G. Morton, and Glenn E. Morton, one grandson Scottie Edward Morton, and two granddaughters, Hannah Hopkins, and Courtney Paige Faircloth. He was also preceded in death by 6 brothers and 4 sisters.
He is survived by 3 daughters, Yvonne Hopkins (Gerald), Carolyn Eggleston (Jud-deceased), Betty Jo Barbour (Gary), and 4 sons Roger Morton, Jackie Morton (Veronica), Gary Dean Morton, and Randy Morton (Terry).
He is also survived by 26 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren, and 17 great, great-grandchildren.
He retired from Old Dominion where he worked for 28 years.
Anyone that knew him, knew his love for his family, music, hunting and gardening. He also was known for his old timey ways and home remedies. In years past, him and the family enjoyed playing music and singing at church functions. He thoroughly enjoyed singing and playing with the boys and always knew the words to the songs. He even had a talent for writing songs of his own. He also had a knack for his sayings and stories and was proud of his family.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a rolling visitation will be held at Collins Funeral Home, 30 Riverside Drive, Bassett, VA on Sunday, February 21, 2021 from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. Immediately following, a graveside service will be held at Mountain View Cemetery, Ridgeway, VA at 2:00 PM.
