

Joe Henry Vaughn, Sr., 75, of Collinsville, died September 18, 2014 at Emeritus of Roanoke after a long battle with Alxheimer's disease. He was born on October 11, 1938 in Martinsville, a son of the late John Arthur Vaughn and Ethel Oakes Vaughn.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Shirley Anna Janey Vaughn and his brothers Ralph Vaughn, William Vaughn, Irvin Green Vaughn, Curtis Lee Vaughn, and Ernest R. Vaughn.
Joe's life was centered on family. He created a happy home with Shirley and provided his sons with the foundation and opportunity to live happy and fulfilling lives. He was retired from the Virginia Department of Taxation.
Surviving are his two sons, Joe H. Vaughn Jr. and his wife Connie of Roanoke, and Tim R. Vaughn of Richmond; his brother James A Vaughn of North Carolina, and two grandchildren, Virginia Kent Vaughn Duckworth and her husband Tyler Ridge Duckworth of King George, Virginia and Joseph Brock Vaughn of Charlotte.
The family sends a special thank you to the caring staff of Emeritus at Roanoke. They watched over "JoJo" like family. Much gratitude is also extended to T.W. and Darlene Brokenbrough, who could always make Joe sing, dance and smile. They became his best friends in those final years.
There will be a graveside service officiated by Lawrence Harris in Roselawn Burial Park at 1:00 p.m. on September 21, 2014. Arrangements are being handled by Collins-McKee Stone Funeral Home of Bassett Virginia. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, gifts be made to he Alzheimer's Association.
