

Luther Green (Lum) Hazlewood, Jr., 83, of Bassett, died Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at Pioneer Hospital in Stuart. He was born in Patrick County, August 21, 1928 to Luther G. Hazlewood, Sr. and Sue Blackard Hazlewood. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict and retired from DuPont after 38 years of service. After his retirement he was employed by Henry County Schools as a bus driver for 12 years. He was a member of New Hope Christian Fellowship in Collinsville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Myrtle Bryant, Rachel Hager, Marie Hazelwood, Barbara Hazlewood and Callie Sue Fauquette; one brother, Charlie Otis Hazlewood and a son-in-law, Rev. Keith Davidson.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Thelma Hazelene Barbour Hazelwood of Blue Ridge Nursing Home in Stuart; one daughter, Denise H. Davidson of Portsmouth; one son, Garry Hazelwood and wife Kay of Bassett; four grandchildren, Greg Davidson and wife Esther, Karissa Billing and husband Rodney, Chuck Hazelwood and wife April and Amy Hazelwood; six great-grandchildren, Kameron Billings, Isaac Davidson, Brady Hazelwood, Olivia Billings, Jaley Davidson and Maggie Davidson.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Collins Funeral Home in Bassett with Rev. Jimmy Woods, Rev, Garry Hazelwood and Rev. Denise Davidson officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park with military honors by the Martinsville-Henry County Veterans Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 AM prior to the funeral service on Saturday.
Memorial Contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
