Posie L Collins Jr.

Posie L. Collins Jr., age 89, of 495 Ridgewood Rd., Bassett, died Thursday, June 16, 2011, in Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. Born in Peterscreek, VA, June 16, 1922, he was the son of the late Posie L. Collins and Bessie King Collins Martin. Also preceding him in death was his wife, Iris Spencer Collins.

Posie was a graduate of Bassett High School, attended VA Tech, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a lumber buyer for Stanley Furniture Company for 38 years before his retirement. He was a charter member of the Stanleytown Ruritan Club, and was a member of the Collinsville Coin Club and the Bassett Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Lewis Lee Collins and his wife, Lois of Virginia Beach, and Gary W. Collins and his wife, Susan of Martinsville; six grandchildren, Brent Collins, Blake Collins, Bryson Collins, Drew Collins, Chris Collins, and Mark Collins; loving niece, Joyce Oviatt; and loving caregivers, Bonnie and Amanda Thompson, and Margaret Ingram.

The graveside funeral service will be held at 10 A.M. Saturday, June 18, 2011, at Roselawn Burial Park with the Rev. Jim Hewitt and Minister Tim Hunt officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the Veterans Honor Guard of Martinsville and Henry County.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA of Martinsville and Henry County or the Bassett Rescue Squad.
