Terris Veneda Tilley

Terris Veneda Tilley, 92, of Bassett died Saturday, February 5, 2011 at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville. He was a resident of Stanleytown Health Care Center. He was born May 17, 1918 in Chesterfield South Carolina to James Early Tilley and Blye Threatt Tilley. He was a graduate of Chesterfield High School and served in the Army during World War II. Mr. Tilley retired from J.D. Bassett Manufacturing Company where he was employed for over 60 years. He was a member of Valley Drive Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Frances Marie Tilley; four brothers, Herbert, Otis, Bill and Maynard Tilley; a grandson, Matthew Ward Tilley and a son-in-law, Joe Loar.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Conrad “Connie” Leona Callaway Tilley of Stanleytown Health Care; a daughter, Cheryl Loar of Martinsville; a son, Steve Tilley and wife Brenda of Bassett; a sister, Mavis Barrett of Martinsville; four grandchildren, Melissa Cassady, Mary Lee Tilley, Paula Tilley and Grey Tilley; three great-grandchildren, Ally Cassady, Kylleigh Tilley and Christian Tilley.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Valley Drive Baptist Church with Pastor Bobby Rakes officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park with military honors by the Martinsville-Henry County Veterans Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6:30 to 8:30 P.M. at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Bassett and other times at the residence of the daughter, Cheryl Loar, 202 Marigold Road in Martinsville (Preston Community).
