Thomas “Tommy” E. Flippin Sr., age 87, of Collinsville, VA, died Friday, January 20, 2017. He was born March 14, 1929 in Martinsville, VA to the late Walter H. and Essie (Martin) Flippin.
He is also preceded in death by his brothers James and Walter Flippin.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 63 years, Celia Moore Flippin; daughters, Rhonda (Dink) Byrd and Cindy Flippin of Collinsville; Sons, Thomas (Karon) Flippin of Rocky Mount, VA, Rodney (Kim) Flippin of Jacksonville, FL,; sisters, Hester Boggs of Pensacola, FL, Louise Vipperman of Bassett, and Mildred Cox of Ridgeway; Ten Grandchildren; and one great- granddaughter.
Tommy served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a Parts Manager for Patrick Henry Chrysler Plymouth for many years as well as with other local dealerships. He was a faithful member of Starling Avenue Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends at Collins Funeral Home Chapel from 4:00 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, January 22, 2017 with funeral services being held 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 23, 2017. Interment will follow at a later date due to weather. Military rights will be presented by the Martinsville Honor Guard.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Edwards Adult Day Care 431 Commonwealth Blvd E, Martinsville, VA 24112.
