Timothy Francis Cardwell

Timothy Francis Cardwell, 66, of Martinsville, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2014 at his residence. He was born in Henry County, June 19, 1947 to Corbett Reid Cardwell and Nellie Sue Smith Cardwell, both deceased. Tim was a graduate of Drewery Mason High School and retired from Chatmoss Country Club as a mechanic. He was in the Navy from 1966 to 1972 serving aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt where he attained the rank of First Class Petty Officer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, David Andrew Cardwell.

Tim is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 48 years, Carol Sue Moorefield Cardwell of the residence; twin daughters, Katherine Vipperman and husband, Leon of Bassett and Karen Myers of Ridgeway; two grandchildren, Brittany Nicole Myers, Joshua Adam Cardwell and wife, Stacey; one great-grandchild, Casandra Cardwell; one sister, Ramona Dare Boothe and husband, Dewey of Ridgeway; one sister-in-law, Brenda Kaye Moorefield of Martinsville; two nieces, Monica Merriman and Melissa Walker; great nieces, Kristen and Kayla Moorefield and Brianne Merriman; one great-grand-nephew, Caden; special friends, Louis (Bo) Gravley, Daniel Edwards and Gordon McDaniels.

The funeral service will be held Monday, June 9, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home in Bassett with Minister David Cuthbertson, pastor of Horsepasture Christian Church officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service.

All other services will be private.
