Wilbert Curtis Johnson Sr.

He was born on June 18, 1925 in Bassett, VA to the late George Oscar Johnson, Sr. and Mattie Hairston Johnson.

Wilbert was a retired employee of 40 years service with Bassett Furniture Company and of 32 years service with Henry County Public Schools. He was also a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II and was a devoted Deacon of Rock Run Primitive Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Elizabeth Hairston Johnson, and five children, Wanda Johnson Walker, Joan Johnson Smith, Jane Johnson Hairston, Wilbert Curtis Johnson, Jr., and Ursula Johnson Cheng. He was preceded in death by his second eldest daughter, Carolyn Johnson Cobbs.

Missing him dearly are eleven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild and five remaining siblings.

The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Collins Funeral Home in Bassett. Visitation will be held thirty minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow at Wilbert & Elizabeth Johnson Family Cemetery, 2045 The Great Road, Fieldale, VA.
