Edgar (Junior) Roeber was welcomed home by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 16, 2016. Edgar was preceded in death by a daughter, Ginger, and his wife of nearly 50 years, Rosella. He is survived by his children Ruth, Mary, Dorothy, John, and Margarret, seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Edgar was born on a farm outside of Gonzales on July 26, 1930, one of eight children born to Henry and Norma Roeber. He moved to San Antonio at the age of 16 and three years later he met Rosella, whom he fell in love with and married. They moved to Bastrop in 1963 where they made a home, raised their children, and touched the lives of many people in their community.
Edgar worked for H.B. Zachry Construction Company from the age of 16 until he was 60, at which time he had to retire after sustaining an injury on the job. After recovering from his injury Edgar was able to devote more time to helping others and to pastimes he loved, such as beekeeping and gardening. Some years later he realized a longtime dream of his to buy acreage and raise cattle.
Edgar was a man who had a deep belief in Jesus, strong values, and a commitment to share the good news of the gospel. Edgar believed in taking care of and providing for his family and taught all of his children the value of hard work and the importance of a relationship with the Lord. He was an active member of the First Assembly of God Church in Bastrop until the age of 80, at which time he moved to a residential care home in Austin.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 27, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Marrs-Jones-Newby Funeral Home in Bastrop. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 28, at the First Assembly of God Church in Bastrop.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the First Assembly of God Church Building Fund.
