

Raymond J. Hoffman passed away January 23, 2016. He was born at home on April 20, 1940 in the small German community of Rockne, Texas. Raymond was preceded in death by his father Albert Joseph Hoffman and mother Emma Meuth Hoffman. He is survived by his daughters Cheri Hilbig (Phil), Cindy Steubing and Brenda Hoffman. Additional survivors include his four grandchildren, Chase Hilbig, Nicole Peterson (Brent), Brittany Steubing and Milãn Hoffman and great-granddaughter Mikayla Peterson; his eight siblings Ovon Goertz, Clyde Hoffman (Gloria), Theresa Shumake, Olivia Bartsch (Lester), Alois Hoffman (Jeannie), Blondena Saucedo (Benjamin), Letitia Miller and Debbie Kretzschmar (Jimmy); uncle Bill Meuth, aunt Freda Kadura, Debbe Reynolds and Betty Long.
Raymond was the second of nine children. When he was born, he was so small he fit in a shoe box. He was not expected to live and his parents had him baptized the next day. He was the first baby to be baptized in the new Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
He grew up in the Rockne Community attending school there till 7th grade. In 8th and 9th grade he attended school in Bastrop. He was a member of the 4-H club where he won a calf in a calf scramble at a Houston Rodeo. After 9th grade he joined the US Army. He worked as a truck driver making deliveries to Austin and back; he was a certified barber in Austin and became a landscaper where he traveled out of state. He found his passion though building homes. He built his first home in the mid-70's and continued to build homes in Central Texas. He was a perfectionist and people would wait for him until he could schedule their home to be built by him. He retired in 2005 and was well known for his carpenter skills in Rockne and the community would rely on him for help with things that needed repaired.
Raymond enjoyed spending time with family and friends and his hobbies included deer hunting and watching football, Dallas cowboys being his favorite team. He was generous, a dedicated hard worker and devoted to his faith. He will be deeply missed by those who knew him.
Rosary will be at 7:00 pm Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rockne. Funeral mass will be at 10:30 am Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rockne.
