
Alfred Steward Heroman, 82, born Oct. 2, 1928, passed away peacefully at 6 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2011, at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice after a recent stroke. He was a retired insurance investment consultant. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Amy Cutrer Heroman; brothers, Fred Heroman and William "Billy" Heroman; children, Rusty Heroman, Danny Heroman, Nancy Heroman Plaisance, Karen Heroman Broussard and Holly Heroman Andrews; daughter-in-law, Robbie Heroman; sons-in-law, Danny Plaisance, Craig Broussard and Bo Andrews; and grandchildren, Rad Heroman, J.D., Jessica and Matthew Heroman, Daniel, Todd and Sarah Plaisance, Adam Broussard, M.D., Amy and Ashley Andrews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys Burke Heroman and Fred I. Heroman; and brother, Harry Heroman. He was an Air Force veteran and graduate of Catholic High School, Class of 1946, and studied horticulture at LSU. He was a member of the LSU "L" Club and Catholic High School Men's Club. He was inducted into the Catholic High School "Grizzly Great" Hall of Fame in 1999. Al played football for the LSU Fighting Tigers from 1946-1948 as right halfback. He played in the 1947 Cotton Bowl, known as the famous "Ice Bowl." Al set several football records during his LSU career and was known as "mercury heeled" and a "speedster." His hobbies were sports, fishing, horticulture and family. Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 19, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 12424 Brogdon Lane, from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Rad Heroman, Adam Broussard, Daniel Plaisance, Todd Plaisance and Matthew Heroman, and son-in-law, Craig Broussard. Mass will be officiated by the Rev. Jerry Martin, followed by gravesite service at Roselawn Cemetery, 4042 North St.
