Albert “Boo” “Papa” Windham, age 92, peacefully passed away at his home on Sunday, September 12, 2021; his favorite day of the week. He was born in Kenner, Louisiana on Thursday, February 21, 1929 and resided in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Albert was a faithful man who loved the Lord, his country, family, and church community. He loved everyone with agape love seldom found these days. He valued his family and cherished every phone call and visit from his children whom he loved so much. Although his phone calls were usually short, he always ended the call with a heartfelt “I love you and you take care.” His church family was considered his extended family and he made many cherished friendships over the years. LSU Tigers, New Orleans Saints, hunting and fishing were passions that brought him joy throughout his life. One of his greatest honors was serving in the United States Army as a Liaison Sergeant Forward Artillery Observer in the 71st Armored Field Artillery Battalion during the height of the Korean War. It was always an honor to hear him tell of his stories in which he fought so valiantly and bravely to protect our country. He retained his rascally sense of humor, sharp mind, caring heart and strong will until his very last day.
Survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Margaret Ryder Windham; devoted children, Allison (Bobby) Simpson, Darryl Windham, David (Valerie) Windham, Kim (Doug) LaBauve, Lorrie (Glenn) Faucheaux; 14 wonderful grandchildren; and 27 beautiful great grandchildren; and treasured brother, Paul Windham. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert L. Windham, Sr. and Leona Fourroux Windham; siblings Billie Rose Ryan, Lorraine Napolitano, Faye Nell Moran, Hope L. Edmonston and Jarrett C. Windham; and granddaughter, Hope Windham. A heartfelt thanks goes to healthcare staff at LifeSource, Diane Miller, and the countless other doctors, nurses and aides. The care and compassion will never be forgotten. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend his Life Celebration on Friday, September 17, 2021 at Greenoaks Funeral Home, Florida Blvd. Visitation taking place 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM with a Funeral Service to follow 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM.
