

"Alfred A. "Buck" Bayhi went to his eternal rest on Holy Saturday, March 31, 2018, at 9:45 p.m., surrounded by his family. He was 93 years old and is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Margaret Farris Bayhi. He was born in Port Allen, the 7th child born to Walter Charles Bayhi and Augusta D'Avignon Bayhi. He spent most of his adult life in Baton Rouge. Early in life, he was required to assume the responsibility and care of his mother and younger siblings. He is predeceased by his parents, three sisters, and five brothers. He retired from Exxon, formerly Standard Oil of New Jersey, after 36 years of service. All of his life, he had a passion for gardening, and after his retirement from Exxon was able to focus his efforts on his greenhouse operations and large vegetable and rose gardens on Perkins Road. During the last 35 years that he cultivated vegetables from seed to plant, many amateur gardeners bought produce from "Mr. Buck" and sought his knowledge and advice on gardening. He was well known and respected for his green thumb and sense of humor. A humble great man, faith and family were the centerpiece of his life. After his retirement from Exxon, as long as he was able to drive, he opened St. Aloysius Catholic Church every morning for 6 a.m. daily mass and 7 a.m. mass on Sundays. He instilled in his five loving children the importance of hard work, education, faith in God and love for family. He is survived by his daughter Jane Bayhi Wood (Mitchell) and four sons, Walter George Bayhi, William Richard Bayhi (Frieda), Alfred Dennis Bayhi (Lynne) of Thibodeaux and, the Rev. M. Jeffrey Bayhi, of Baton Rouge. He adored his eight grandchildren, Matthew Bayhi (Amanda), Jennifer Bayhi Gennaro (Michael), Adrienne Wood and Adam Wood, all of Baton Rouge; and Dennis Michael Bayhi, Rebecca Bayhi, Lauren Bayhi Ledet (Patrick) and Michelle Bayhi of Thibodaux. He was blessed to know his six great-grandchildren, Max and Lucy Gennaro, Katy, Brady and Briggs Bayhi, and William Ledet. The wake will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home on Government Street on Tuesday, April 3rd, 2018 from 5 "“ 8 p.m. Recitation of the Rosary at 7 pm, Tuesday. Visitation will be on Wednesday April 4th, 2018 from 9 - 10:30 a.m. in the Parish Hall at St. Aloysius. The funeral mass will follow the visitation at St. Aloysius Catholic Church.
