
Alfred, 80, a resident of St. Gabriel and a longtime resident and native of Baton Rouge, passed away at 6:50 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12, 2008. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict, he retired as an educator from the East Baton Rouge Parish school system, having taught 7th and 8th grade mathematics at Glen Oaks Junior High School. Afterwards, he retired as director of purchasing for Dixie Electric Cooperative. He served as chairman of the board of ALEC. He was a member and deacon of Broadmoor Baptist Church, where he served for more than 25 years and was chairman of the board of ushers. He was also a member of St. James Masonic Lodge 47 F&AM. Survived by his wife of 46 years, Margaret Ann 'Peggy' Strickland Blanchard, St. Gabriel; daughter, Laura Blanchard Wicks and husband Jerry, Baton Rouge; brother, Joseph Blanchard, Ph.D., and wife Rosel, Baton Rouge; sister, Joan Correu, Richardson, Texas; grandchildren, Allison Bordelon Endres and husband Delbert, Louisville, Ky., Megan Bordelon, Lexington, Ky., and Lindsay Bordelon, Baton Rouge; and his beloved pet, Buddy. Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph A. and Laura Neames Blanchard; and sister, Elsie Blanchard Sarradet. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Sunday, Dec. 14, was from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. with a Masonic service at 5:30 p.m., conducted by Past Master Frank Dedman. Visiting at Broadmoor Baptist Church, 9755 Goodwood Blvd., on Monday, Dec. 15, from 10 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Mr. James Riley, the Rev. Dr. Jarrett Banks, the Rev. Dr. John Goodwin and the Rev. Ms. Pam Williams. Interment with military honors at Port Hudson National Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Harold Sicard, Mike Robinson Sr., James H. Morgan III, Bob Epperson, Tim Best and Frank Dedman. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Roy Regan, F.R. Gros, Skip Spurlock, Henry Childs, Dr. Ralph Beadle, Bob Harbour, Aubrey Cox, Bill Davis, Dr. Allen Rutherford, Lancy Hill, Roy Wallace, Wayne Purdom, Tom Averett, Fred Nunnelly, Dean Dewees, Bill Taylor and the members of St. James Lodge 47. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to Broadmoor Baptist Church Scholarship Fund, 9755 Goodwood Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70815.
