Alphonse Rene “Al” Jolissaint III, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away at the age of 79 on Saturday, June 28, 2025. Born on August 29, 1945, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Al was raised in New Orleans and proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.
After his service, he returned home to attend Louisiana State University, where he earned a degree in electrical engineering. Al made Baton Rouge his home for nearly 50 years and was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church.
Al was a man of quiet strength and deep generosity—a gentle giant who loved gadgets, pockets, and a good procedural cop show. He was a voracious reader of science fiction and fantasy novels and always made sure he had a book with him wherever he went. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, spending time outdoors, and was an excellent marksman. After retirement, he continued giving back to the community as a proud CASA advocate for local foster children.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Ann Dickey Jolissaint; his daughters, Mary Elizabeth Hart (Bryan) and Rebecca Jolissaint; and his cherished grandchildren, John and Mary Harper Hart. He is also survived by his brothers, Charles (Diane) and Mark (Theresa), along with his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alphonse Rene and Juanita Steed Jolissaint.
Services will be held Thursday, July 3, at First United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. A private burial at Port Hudson National Cemetery will take place at a later date.
Honorary pallbearers include Bryan and John Hart, David, Jeff and Matt Gill, and Harold Keegan.

Above all, Al loved spending time with his family. His quiet humor, steady presence, and deep love will be profoundly missed.
