
Ann Harding Mahoney Gilin passed away Tuesday, March 12th, at home surrounded by loved ones after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Ann was born in Homestead, PA, on Sept. 7, 1930, and was one of four girls. She graduated from Carlow College in Pittsburgh, where she studied English. Ann married Tom Mahoney in 1954 and together they had seven children. Ann and Tom moved to Baton Rouge in 1973 from White Plains, NY. Widowed in 1994, Ann married David Gilin in 2004. Ann worked for many years as a Council Aide to the Baton Rouge Metro Council. She was an active member of Church Women United, The Republican Women's Club, Right to Life, Fairwood Country Club Bridge Club and St. Thomas More (STM) Parish. Ann loved attending performances at the B.R. Little Theatre and The B.R. Symphony, even performing at the theatre in earlier years. She also sang in Saints Alive and STM's Resurrection Choir. Ann loved to play piano, sing, play cards and cook for her large family. Ann is survived by her husband, David Gilin, her sister, Helen McKinney, her 7 children; T. J. Mahoney (Lisa), Liz Ganey (Tim), Jim Mahoney (Gail), Peter Mahoney (Mimi), Mary Kate Saunders (Kirk), Philip Mahoney (Carol Anne) and Meg Mahoney (Jason Wendt) and 4 stepchildren; Catherine Rogers (Mark), Linda Butler, Steven Gilin (Helen), Alena McDuff (Mark), 36 grandchildren and 5 great¬grandchildren. Ann was preceded in death by her first husband, Tom Mahoney, her parents, Nell and James Harding, and her sisters, Mary Frances Killion and Alberta Simmons. Special thanks to the staff at Charlie's Place and Alzheimer's Service of Baton Rouge and Donna Bailey who took such loving care of Ann in her final months. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 15 at Rabenhorst East, 11000 Florida Blvd., from 5-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11411 Goodwood Blvd., with visitation occurring one hour prior at STM.
