On Thursday, August 28 our sweet mother, Barbara Ann Johnson Gallegos joined our dad, William Joseph Gallegos with our Lord in heaven. Barbara, also known as Bobby and Nan, was a spunky lady and even in the days before her death pushed her walker like she was a Formula 1 driver. She was kind, considerate and loving. Even in her 90's she would get on the floor with her great grandchildren. In the short six weeks at the St. James Wellness Center, she immediately connected with the staff, and they loved her. To the staff at St. James Place, where she lived for the past nine years, she was the cookie lady and prepared a table of Christmas gifts each year for the staff. Her heart was big and her smile even bigger.
Barbara's legacy of "family comes first" will live on in her four children - Sonya Gallegos Tablada (Julian) of Norcross, Georgia, Teresa Lynn Gallegos, William Joseph Gallegos, Jr. (Marie Di Nome) and Mark Wendell Gallegos (Emily) of Baton Rouge as well as grandchildren Jason Tablada (Jennifer), Michael Tablada (Rebecca), Ryan Tablada (Becky), Barrett Gallegos, Collin Gallegos, Raegan Gallegos, Grant Gallegos, Morgan Gallegos, and step grandchildren Seth and Damien Ard. She was blessed to enjoy many years and visits from her great grandchildren as well - William Tablada, Catalina Tablada, Joseph Tablada, Benjamin Tablada, and Christian Tablada.
The daughter of 10 children, she is preceded in death by her mother Corinne, her father Thomas Johnson and her 7 siblings, Corinne, Ethel, Geraldine, Shirley, John, Thomas, James. She has two living sisters, Mary Johnson Saradet and Marie Johnson Hebert of Brusly.
The list is long of the people to thank who came into mom's lives over the years, but we particularly thank St. Joseph Hospice for the loving care over the past two months and particularly her final days on this earth. To her nurse Danielle the biggest hugs and thank you for providing a caring heart and beautiful smile to mom and to us the past two months.
We will miss you mom. Give a big hug to dad. I know you have missed him these past 18 years and are so happy to be finally reunited. God raised you up on eagle's wings and holds you now in his hands.
In lieu of flowers please send donations to St. Joseph Hospice/Carpenter House, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. A celebration of life will be announced in the near future.
