Bernice Gaudet Lennox, 99, a native of New Orleans, LA, and longtime resident of Baton Rouge, died peacefully on Monday, October 31, 2022. Bernice was a smart, self-reliant, witty woman who liked nothing better than to discuss weighty issues with friends over several glasses of wine. She enjoyed long lunches with friends as well as her daughters and granddaughter. She loved to receive and show off the flowers from her sons. Gambling at the casinos near the river were a favorite pastime but did not compare to her love of sports, especially LSU baseball and football. Bernice was a journalism major at LSU who enjoyed writing for the church paper, The Tower, for several years. She had a lovely habit of buying herself little gifts, wrapping them, putting them on the top shelf of the closet, and forgetting what each package contained. On a day that she needed a pick- me-up she would treat herself to one of the presents. Lastly, but most importantly, she shared 52 happy years of marriage with her husband, Jay Lennox, and cared for him lovingly throughout his illness until his death. Bernice is survived by her children, Betty Lennox Drake (Jack), Douglas Lennox, Patricia Lennox Randall (Bill), and Donald Lennox; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jay Lennox; and siblings, Claire Hardy and Felix Gaudet. Family and friends are invited to the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church, 11441 Goodwood Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA, on Tuesday, November 29, at 10am. Burial will immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bernice’s name to The Alzheimer’s Association.
