After a lengthy illness, Bernice went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007. She was born in Baton Rouge on Sept. 9, 1925. She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Young; mother, Bernice Metz; sisters, Eloise McGrew and Hazel Ruth Trinks; and nephew, Tommy Sibley. She is survived by her half brother, David Metz; nieces, Lois Judge and Shirley Baltz; and nephews, Gerald McGrew and William L. Sibley. Her extended family includes many nieces and nephews. Bernice served the Lord all of her life. Although she was afflicted with the results of polio as a child, she worked in many Baptist churches in Louisiana as director of Christian Education. Some churches she served in were in Baton Rouge, Baker and Ferriday. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., was on Tuesday, Aug. 14, from noon until service at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Allen Johnson officiating. Interment in Roselawn Memorial Park. Remembrances may be given to the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home, P.O. Box 4196, Monroe, LA 71211.
