“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” Hebrews 4:16 Billie Jean Johnson FaKouri, a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at the age of 91. A native of Starks, LA, she was born on December 20, 1931, to Helen Mitchell Johnson Foster and Claude Johnson. After finishing Port Barre High School, Billie was trained as a surgical nurse and proudly assisted in the operating room at the hospital in Church Point. She soon met Jerry E. FaKouri, Sr. of Opelousas, and they married on March 5, 1950. Early in their marriage, they moved to Baton Rouge where she helped Jerry establish and build FaKouri Construction, Inc. and amass numerous real estate holdings. Billie was a devoted member of the Capital Region Builders Association, holding multiple positions and serving as President of the Ladies’ Auxiliary. Also an avid bowler for over forty years, she loved the competition and the comradery of her teammates. Billie enjoyed cooking and hosting special events, especially Christmas, for family and friends. She particularly enjoyed fishing and spending time with “Senior” at the camp at Lake Verret. Billie is survived by her sons, Jerry E. FaKouri, Jr. (Virginia), Elias Jacob “Fuzzy” FaKouri (Jerry), and William Nicholas “Nick” FaKouri (Janet); grandchildren, Matt (Heidi), Christopher (Casey), Daniel (Liz), and Adam FaKouri (Kristen); step-grandchildren, Emily Parsons Hamilton (Kyle) and Miles S. Entombment will immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pall bearers will be her grandsons, Matt, Christopher, Daniel, and Adam FaKouri; great-grandson, Aidan FaKouri; and family friend Nolan Richard; spiritual pall bearer, grandson Byron FaKouri; and honorary pall bearer, step-grandson, Miles Parsons, M.D. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Richard Lieux, M.D.; Glenda Gullege, who loved and cared for her, becoming like the daughter she never had; Wendy Johnson, Linda Scott, Loise Lanus, Enola Miller, and Geradine Dunn for their excellent care—especially in her later years.
