Billie Sweeney Hargrove

Billie Ruth Sweeney Hargrove, 85, of Baton Rouge passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2014, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. She was a loving and devoted wife and second mother to her niece, Tammy Ozley Brice. Billie was affectionately known as "GG" to her grandniece with whom she was like a Grandmother. Billie was also known as "Aunt Billie" to her many nieces and nephews. She had many hobbies but especially enjoyed boating. Billie will long be remembered for her generosity and love for her family and friends. Billie would light up a room with her smile and warm heart. She was born in Alabaster, Alabama on February 23, 1929, and graduated from Thompson High School. Billie married James O. Hargrove in 1949. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Baton Rouge. They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary in 2009. Billie and her sister, Vivian, owned and operated Two Sister's Beauty Salon in Baton Rouge for over 40 years. Billie is survived by her niece, Tammy Ozley Brice, and husband, Michael Brice, her grandniece, Mary Wells Brice, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Hargrove; her parents, John Robert Sweeney and Mary Ethel Sweeney of Alabaster, Alabama; her sisters, Ella Mae Blankenship, Annie Johnson, Eva Harwell, Lallage Attaway, Kate Posey; and her brothers, John Robert Sweeney, Jr., Patrick Sweeney, Leland Sweeney, and Leo Glenn. The family would like to thank Kenneth Cole, MD, James West, MD, Betty Leonard, Sandra Douglas, Sylvia Wilson, Shannon Leblanc and numerous other friends and caregivers. Pallbearers will be Michael Brice, Jim Ozley, and J. R. Ozley. Honorary Pallbearers will be Doyle Johnson, Fred Johnson, and Jimmie Johnson. Visitation will be at St. James Episcopal Church on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon, followed by the funeral service at St. James Episcopal Church at 12 noon.
