A graduate of Baker High School, Bobby attended LSU for architecture before joining the Baton Rouge Fire Department where he helped to keep his community safe from October 12, 1959, to July 1,1990. He would eventually rise to the ranks of District Chief. He was beloved among all his fellow firefighters.
Bobby humbly and proudly served his country for 6 years (6 months active) in the Army Reserves.
He was a whitetail marksman and archer, with well over 200 whitetail deer successfully bagged by gun and bow. He also caught countless bass, brim, and catfish on Toledo Bend with his wife Mary, two sons, and grandkids.
He was a loving father to his boys Chris and Danny, husband to his wife Mary of 54 years, and later to his second love Glenda of 12 years. He was a devoted follower of Christ, Eucharistic Minister, a Mentor in the St. Alphonsus Marriage Encounter program, and a member of Catholic, Baptist and Methodist churches during his life.
Bobby was a true Renaissance Man. A fireman, a visual artist (painter), a bricklayer, a performer, a hunter, a fisherman, a carpenter, and a square dancer amongst many other things. The only things he couldn’t do were the things he didn’t have the time to do. He had an infectious sense of humor. To know him was to feel loved and to laugh with him. He was the King and Headlining Performer of the Annual Efferson Fish Fry in the ‘80s, 90s, and ‘2000s.
He is survived by Glenda Worm, who he was lucky enough to call his wife; children and their spouses, Chris and Debra Efferson, Danny and Carol Efferson; adoring grandchildren, Nathan and Jennifer Efferson, Michael and Michelle Efferson, Jennifer and Lance Lepine, Clayton Strong, Cody and Kayla Efferson, Nicholas Efferson; great-grandchildren, Violet Efferson, Samuel Efferson, Mariana Efferson, Melise Efferson, Luke Lepine, Amelia Lepine, Brianna Efferson, Madison Efferson, Liam Efferson, and Aria Efferson.
Other survivors are his brother Carroll and Evelyn Efferson, brother Lynn Efferson, in addition to his special first cousins that grew up like siblings on Thomas Road in Baker, and special lifelong friend, Bill McLin. He was considered “Grandpa” to Glenda’s children, Darrin Goodwin & Wendy, and Kristie Miller, and 5 grandchildren. He was the first & only Grandpa that most of Glenda’s grandchildren ever had!
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Bueche Efferson, his father Leslie Efferson, his mother Aline Efferson, sister-in-law Linda Efferson. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Special thanks to Ochsner Medical Center for their kindness and compassion during such a challenging time. In lieu of flowers, Bobby’s family prefers donations to the American Cancer Society.
