Byron David Basco, DDS, entered eternal rest on the morning of Wednesday, January 8, 2025. Born in Belle Chasse, Louisiana, Byron attended both elementary and middle school at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Belle Chasse and graduated from Holy Cross High School in New Orleans in 1988. Byron earned the first of his two degrees from Louisiana State University in 1993, with a Bachelor of Science degree from the main campus in Baton Rouge. He then graduated from the LSU School of Dentistry in New Orleans.
Known for his good humor and kind nature, Byron was beloved by his patients. He greatly enjoyed quoting movies, playing games, and trading riddles and jokes with his many friends. He was a dedicated family man who maintained his generosity, sense of humor, and positivity despite the challenge of a grave disability that forced his early retirement from dentistry.
In his youth, Byron earned the Boy Scouts’ highest distinction, Eagle Scout, and was an outstanding athlete and outdoorsman. He had fond recollections of hunting and fishing with his family and playing football with his classmates. But he was never more at home than when he was surrounded by family later in life and will always be remembered for the wisdom and love he shared with us all.
Byron is survived by his children Regan Joachim Basco and Kennedy Basco Chouest, his former spouse Shelley Joachim, DDS, his brother William (Bill) Basco, MD and his brother-in-law Jonathan Scott Chouest. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Thomas Basco, Sr., and Patricia Ann Basco, both of Belle Chasse.
Byron will be interred at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cemetery in Belle Chasse with a graveside ceremony on January 18, 2025 at 11 AM. The family suggests donations to Parkinson’s Disease research foundations in lieu of flowers.
