

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race; I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7). Heaven has a new spit fire! Carmen passed away peacefully on February 9, 2016 at the Crossing at Clarity Hospice at the age of 73. She was a devoted wife, daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. A native of Donaldsonville and a resident of St. Francisville. She was a retired court reporter with the 19th JDC for 38 years. She was a faithful member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Society. She was a talented seamstress, a wonderful cook, and enjoyed working in her yard and admiring her many flowers. But her greatest joy came from spending time with her family. She selflessly gave of herself to her husband and children and she will forever be remembered with love. She is survived by son, Brett Burns and wife, Bonnie; daughter, Jeanne Burns Dempster and husband, Lloyd; grandchildren, Derek Burns, Ashlyn Burns Malone and husband, Chris, Jake Newgard and girlfriend, Zoe Watts, Arielle Dempster Stermer and husband, Levi, Julianna Dempster and Shelby Dax Dempster; great-granddaughter, Brayleigh Malone; four brothers, Jimmy Madere and wife, Diane, Anthony Madere and wife, Jean, Donald Madere and Julie, and Ricky Madere; three brothers-in-law, Rev. Gerald Burns, Mark Burns and wife, Gail, Matt Burns and wife, Cherie; three sisters-in-law, Patricia White, Carolyn McIntyre, and Kay Crochet and husband, Danny; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by husband, Shelby Joseph Burns III; infant daughter, Lisa Ashley Burns; parents, Whelom Madere, Jr. and Jennie Latino Madere; brother, David Madere; sister, Suzie Madere; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Linda Madere; and father and mother-in-law, Shelby “JB” and Margaret Burns. Visitation will be held at St. Aloysius Catholic Church on Friday, February 12, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow on the grounds of Greenoaks Memorial Park. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Carmen Dillon, her devoted caregiver for her extraordinary compassion and care. They appreciate her so much and know how much their mom cherished Carmen, her husband Jamaar, and the loving relationship she had with their son Sai in the last years of her life. Also, a special thanks to Roshare Sylvester for her loving service. Thanks to the staff at The Crossing for their compassion and especially Mary Myers for her gentle care. And to Carmen’s family and friends for the many visits, calls, and love shown to her over the years especially Richard and Kathleen Lemoine, Mike and Linda Babin, and Mike and Hilda Crangle.
